The Complete Guide to Using a Menstrual Cup Applicator
Why Menstrual Cups Are So Popular and Why Beginners Love Them
Menstrual cups are loved for their eco-friendliness, affordability, and comfort. Instead of going through dozens of pads or tampons each cycle, you only need one reusable menstrual cup that lasts for years. Cups are also safer for your body, made of medical-grade silicone without the harmful chemicals found in some disposable products according to recent studies.
If you’re new to reusable menstrual cups, you might be wondering: How do I insert a menstrual cup like a tampon? Many first-time users find insertion tricky, but that’s exactly why a menstrual cup applicator can make all the difference.
Meet the Pixie Cup Applicator: Easily Insert Your Menstrual Cup Like a Tampon
If you’ve ever felt unsure about using a menstrual cup or tried and given up, you’re not alone. While menstrual cups are game-changing in terms of comfort, sustainability, and cost, insertion can feel awkward for beginners.

How to Insert a Menstrual Cup Using the Pixie Applicator (Step-by-Step)
Before every use, wash your hands, applicator, and cup. Do not use high heat to clean your applicator. Instead use a gentle soap like Pixie’s Gel Wash or Foam Wash.
1. Fold cup.
Fold your cup into a heart-fold (also known as a C-fold). This fold keeps your cup compact and fits the shape of the applicator perfectly.
2. Add the folded cup into the top of the Applicator Body.
Once folded, slide the cup into the top of the applicator using lube. Make sure the top of your heart-folded cup aligns with the flat side of the applicator.
The belly of the cup will stretch the Notch to fit your cup perfectly. You can also apply more lube in the body of the applicator for smoother insertion if necessary.
3. Gently insert the Cup Applicator and glide the cup into place.
Insert the Applicator like a tampon into your vagina at a slight angle, aiming towards your tailbone and not straight up. Continue pushing the Glider until the cup is released. Tip: Sit on the toilet, squat or put one leg up on your bathtub the first time you insert your cup with your Applicator.
4. Once the cup is set, carefully remove and clean the Applicator. Store in its case.
Gently remove the Applicator. Run your finger around the base of the cup. If you feel any folds, gently tug and rotate the base of the cup until you feel it pop open. Clean the Cup Applicator with gentle soap, or Pixie Cleansing Mist for a quick and easy clean. Once the applicator is completely dry, store it back in its case
